The main purpose of IGR Unit is to promote and facilitate intergovernmental relations among three spheres of government and to provide for mechanisms and procedures to facilitate the settlement of disputes in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality.

The functions of IGR Unit are as follows:

  • Ensuring Intergovernmental relations planning in the district.
  • Facilitate and coordinate IGR meetings for the Executive/Mayors, Municipal Manager, sectors, local municipalities and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure coherent planning and development in the district.
  • Coordination and alignment of priority objectives and strategies.
  • Promote and facilitate cooperative governance decision-making.
  • Coordinate and align priorities, policies and activities across interrelated functions and sectors.
  • Smooth flow of communication between government and communities.
  • Prevention and resolution of conflicts and disputes.
